AGSEM Spring General Assembly # 2 (TAs and Invigilators) - Elections

AGSEM Annual General Assembly (AGA) on May 15th 2024, at 5:30pm 

The modality of the assembly is hybrid: the physical location is Leacock 26 (downtown; Mac location TBD), and the assembly will also be streamed over Zoom.

General Assembly - Union Elections 

The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of our Union. All AGSEM members are welcome to attend! You are a union member if you have either worked as a TA or an Invigilator within the last 12 months.

Registration to the assembly is necessary to be able to vote, whether you attend in person or online.

Dinner will be served! (both downtown and at Mac!!)

The agenga and zoom link will be emailed to everyone who RSVPs in advance of the meeting

For any secret ballots, the ballot will be sent to your email to everyone who is present in the meeting at the time of the vote, in accordance with labour law.

Please remember to sign your membership form before the meeting! Only workers who have signed their membership form in the past 12 months are voting members of their union.

We strongly encourage everyone to attend in person if possible. In-person attendance helps to build a greater sense of solidarity through direct interactions and meaningful conversations before, during, and after the meeting.

Please only join by Zoom if you are out of town, have health-related concerns, caregiving responsibilities, or are experiencing other challenges that preclude you from attending in person. Thank you for participating in building a stronger union. ✊ And don't forget—dinner is on us!

We ask that you wear a mask, if you attend in person. The AGSEM General Assembly has voted to require masks at union events for the foreseeable future. The meeting coordinators will ensure there are N95 masks in case you forget your mask at home.

Union Elections

AGSEM members in good standing can run for any role: President, Secretary-Treasurer, Grievance Officer (2), Mobilization Officer, External Communication Officer, Macdonald Campus Officer, Equity Committee (5), Audit Committee (3), External Affairs Committee (open), Mobilization Committee (open), and the Mutual Aid Fund Committee (2). Positions will be held from May 15, 2024 to April 30, 2025. For all committees with more than two members, at least one member of the Committee (including the Executive Committee and Bargaining Committee) must be a woman and at least one member of each Committee (including the Executive Committee and Bargaining Committee) must be fluently bilingual in French and English. For the EC, this may be the President. Nominees for the position of President shall be bilingual (English/French).

Nomination process - NOMINATIONS OPEN ON MAY 6, 2024.

Deadline to submit a nomination: May 13, 2024, noon (12:00 p.m.)

Elections how-to instructions

Nomination forms including a candidate statement must be signed by the nominee and 5 AGSEM members in good standing. Filled out nomination forms, including self-nominations, for any of the EC or committee positions can be sent to president@agsem-aeedem.ca. A person may be nominated for only one position during the nomination period. Members can also run in absentia provided they submit a Nomination Form prior to the GA.

The nomination period for all positions will last until May 13, 2024, noon (12:00 p.m.), two (2) working days before the General Assembly. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor at the General Assembly, but only for positions that have one or no nominees.
